Membrane distillation
THE PROCESS
Membrane Distillation is a new unit operation
for processing liquids.
Hot contaminated water flows alongside a microporos, hydrophobic membrane. The water evaporates through the membrane and condenses on a cooling surface. Non-volatile matter cannot penetrate the membrane and is discharged.
The result is absolute separation of all non-volatile matter. Since it works at ambient pressure and at temperatures below 100 °C, the equipment is reliable and durable.
ADVANTAGES
Absolute separation
Absolute separation of all non-volatile matter is an inherent feature
of membrane distillation. There is no entrainment as with conventional
distillation and pressure operated filters.
Reliability
Because of its operation at ambient pressure and at temperatures
below
100 °C, the equipment is reliable and durable.
